- After the shock of running from a sunny, calm beach into the frigid ocean, participants in the Manzanita Polar Plunge make their way back to dry land. An Astoria group has taken up cold swimming on a regular basis.
MANZANITA — Those brave enough to stand the cold are invited to the annual New Year’s Day Polar Plunge, set for 11 a.m. Sunday.
Plungers at the 10th annual event will begin gathering on the shores of Neahkahnie Beach at 10:30 a.m., with anticipation building up to a group sprint for the Pacific Ocean. For safety, plungers are encouraged to stay in the frigid waters no longer than 240 seconds, and to dress warmly for a fireside visit after the dip.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact 503-368-4777 or visit www.exploremanzanita.com.
