- Come to a seed exchange in Nehalem.
NEHALEM — Give Seeds a Chance: Seed Exchange and More will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at the White Clover Grange, 36585 Oregon Route 53 about two miles from U.S. Highway 101 near Mohler. Look for the cow out front. Admission is free.
At this sixth annual exchange, we offer more than 1,000 free herb, vegetable, flower and seed packets. We also welcome seeds from anyone who has seeds to share. Place your collected seeds in envelopes or zip-sealed baggies and mark your seed packet with as much info as possible: plant, variety, area grown, production qualities, etc.
New this year is a free gardening book and gear exchange, and information about local gardening resources.
Hands-on demos include Karen Matthews of the Community Garden, who will show how to test for seed viability, and Arla Ayres, who will show how to make seed tape.
We will have a mini local farmers market. (We are still looking for other vendors of food and gardening-related businesses. If interested, email barbaraandchuck@nehalemtel.net.)
Dave Rockey, who specializes in rehabilitating knives, scissors, loppers, clippers, hoes, shovels, machetes, axes and hatchets, will be on hand.
