Skulls and boats at Art Loft

ASTORIA — The latter half of October brings two workshops hosted by the Astoria Art Loft, 106 Third St.

In honor of Dia de Muertos, create a special glass skull and learn about the history and traditions of the celebration with Christine Kende, Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 23 and 24. Two sessions are available, one at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., another at 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Kende lived in Mexico and has special insight into Dia de Muertos, which takes place Oct. 31 through Nov. 2. The class fee is $100.

Want to draw and paint boats? Stan Riedesel’s two-day workshop is for you: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27 and 28.

You’ll get an overview of small boat construction and create a full-color boat painting. Riedesel will offer assistance, demos and support.
