ASTORIA — North Coast Chorale is in the mood for some fun this spring.

Remember the Mamas & The Papas, Carole King, The Beach Boys and Chicago? The Chorale and Director Denise Reed have selected a variety of music from the 1960s and the ’70s for its 2018 Spring Concert performance and titled it “Just for the Fun of It!”

Come be a part of the fun as the Chorale rocks out at the Performing Arts Center, 588 16th St., at 7 p.m. Friday, May 18, and again at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20.

Tickets are $10 with children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult.

“Rev. Tim,” the Sunday afternoon D.J. for KMUN’s rock ’n’ roll program will announce this concert. He’ll share fun facts and myths about some selections and stir up memories of what was happening in the world 50 years ago, how it changed our thinking, our dress and our music.

No matter your age, these are melodies that are still enjoyed today, and they are tunes that will make you want to sing along.

The final event on the Chorale’s schedule will be a choral festival slated for Friday and Saturday, June 29 and 30. Choral groups from outside Astoria have been invited to participate in various workshops. This project is designed to attract new visitors to our area and is made possible through a grant from the City of Astoria.

The culmination of the choral festival is a benefit concert for the Performing Arts Center given by the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, in the Astoria High School Auditorium.
