Enjoy Fourth of July evening concert in Cannon Beach

CANNON BEACH Enjoy a night of music on your fun-filled Fourth of July holiday. Head to the Cannon Beach City Park, located at Second and Spruce streets next to the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce, for Jazz in the Park.

Music begins at 7 p.m. Friday, July 4. Paul Dueber will emcee the evening. Derek Sims Septet and Bobcat Bob & Friends will perform.

Bob Rice, aka Bobcat Bob, is a guitar player, singer and songwriter with an extensive background in live performance and studio work.

The Derek Sims Septet features Sims on trumpet, Jon Nastos on alto sax, Renato Caranto on tenor sax, Stan Brock on trombone, Clay Giberson on piano, Adre St. James on bass and Carlton Jackson on drums.

Sims is an in-demand trumpeter in Portlands jazz and classical music scene. He has also performed with many different groups in the Portland area including: Mel Brown Septet, the Oregon Symphony, Columbia Symphony, Big Horn Brass, Soul Vaccination, Pepe and the Bottle Blondes, Pink Martini and Dahlia.

Sims maintains a private teaching studio, directs the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Jazz and Theory Programs, and is a clinician and faculty member of the WOU/Mel Brown Summer Jazz Workshops.
