Rebecca Sedlak named editor of Coast Weekend

Rebecca Sedlak is the new editor of Coast Weekend.

She has taken over from Kathleen Strecker of Astoria, who left the newspaper this summer.
“Coast Weekend is one of our company’s most prominent publications,” said Steve Forrester, editor and publisher of The Daily Astorian. “A progression of editors have brought it to this point. Rebecca Sedlak is a bright talent who will give it new energy and insight.”
This past summer, Sedlak was a Snowden reporting intern for The Daily Astorian.

“I’m thrilled about this position,” Sedlak said. “I’ve loved getting to know the North Coast area this summer, and I’m excited to continue here with Coast Weekend.”
From Wilsonville, Sedlak graduated summa cum laude from the University of Oregon in June with a Bachelor of Arts in English and magazine journalism. At the university, she was named the winner of the Hillsboro Argus/Emma C. McKinney Award for Outstanding Senior Woman and the School of Journalism and Communication Award for Academic Excellence in Journalism.
She spent two years working for her campus newspaper, the Oregon Daily Emerald, as a copy editor, copy chief, entertainment reporter and special sections editor. Sedlak also worked as a research intern for the Sustainable Food Trade Association in Eugene.
Her special interests include reading, theater, gardening and acrylic painting. She also maintains a cooking blog about food allergies, which can be found at facooking.wordpress.com
