ASTORIA – There will be a Farm Aid fundraiser to benefit Green Angel Gardens, an organic farm owned by Larkin Stentz, from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Fort George Brewery’s new pub at the corner of 14th and Duane streets. Proceeds will help keep the farm out of foreclosure.
Bands and performers are wanted and farmer poets are welcome. Contact Stentz at (360) 244-0064 for information. There will also be a silent auction. Donations for the auction are needed and can be dropped off at either Fort George Brewery, 1483 Duane St., or Green Angel Gardens. Items will be accepted until the doors open for the event.
Donations can also be made directly to Stentz or to Green Angel Gardens, 6807 Sandridge Road, Long Beach, WA 98631 or via Paypal at www.greenangelgardening.com
Stentz learned the dynamics of bio-intensive food production from pioneers in the field and taught it to farmers in Central and South America before landing on the Long Beach Peninsula. In his six years there he has completely changed the open landscape to suit his food production goals.
The farm consists of two large greenhouses, a bio-dome, a windmill that powers the farm store and much of the farm, two composting toilets, a flock of chickens, plenty of compost, a yoga studio, weekly meditations, a self-service farm store, an old farmhouse and more.
Green Angel Gardens services the community with weekly food boxes full of fresh, organic, locally-grown produce from its farm and other local farms in a Community Supported Agriculture program, and staff members teach the fundamentals of bio-intensive farming to the community and visitors from all over the world.
