Every public, school, college, university and tribal library in Oregon can now provide free access to an online package of resources to help Oregonians of all ages with job and career advancement, test preparation and skill building.
The Oregon State Library has purchased a statewide subscription to LearningExpress Library for all Oregon libraries, using federal funds from the Library Services and Technology Act. Learning Express Library is available 24/7 from any Internet-enabled computer and can be accessed via a library website from any location. Anyone with a library card can register for the free service.
Oregonians with library cards can use LearningExpress Library to:
Prepare for career certification and licensing exams in fields such as health care, law enforcement, the military and more;
Prepare for academic tests such as the GED, SAT, ACT and GMAT;
Find a guide to the steps of the job search process, from creating a resume and honing interviewing techniques to improving business communications skills; and
Build skills through hundreds of interactive skill-building courses in reading, writing and math for all ages, as well as more than 50 multimedia computer training tutorials for the most popular office applications.
Every user of LearningExpress Library has their own individual “learning center” that they return to every time they log on. It is a secure, interactive, online educational resource that is easy and fun to use.
About 40 Oregon libraries were already offering their patrons LearningExpress Library and were reporting that it was a popular resource with library users. Given the economic challenges that still face many Oregonians, the State Library Board wanted to make the resource available in every library in the state. The State Library negotiated with LearningExpress Library to make the resource more widely available using federal discretionary funds the Library receives under the Library Services and Technology Act.
“Libraries are stepping up to help more Oregonians build their job skills and pass exams that will help them meet their education and career goals,” said State Librarian Jim Scheppke. “LearningExpress Library has something for everyone, so I hope all library card holders will explore what it has to offer.”
