Submitted photo In "Circle of Life," Wesley Chancellor's photos document the daily activities at Columbia Veterinary Hospital, including the joy of having a new pet.

Arts and Cultural Exchange presents an exhibit of photography titled “Circle of Life,” with an opening reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, during Astoria’s Second Saturday Art Walk.

This newest collection of photography by Wesley S. Chancellor takes viewers on a heartfelt journey into the daily activities of Dr. Larry Goza and his staff at the Columbia Veterinary Hospital. Chancellor’s photographs capture the fragile life cycle of the area’s four-legged companions, often tugging at the viewer’s heart from one direction to the other. Photos depict the joy of children embracing their new kitten or puppy, families reassuring their ailing companions, the loving medical care given to each patient by hospital staff and the calm dignity of those older pets who are suffering and approaching their final days in this world.

This exhibit was funded by the Arts and Cultural Exchange, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. An opportunity for the public to support the exhibits and workshops of the Arts and Cultural Exchange will be possible through a free-will offering that evening.

In addition to the “Circle of Life” exhibit, the Center will feature the acrylic works of Astoria High School student and animal advocate Ravyn Benton. Benton’s artwork is her senior project and highlights her passion for creating awareness of the important role animals play in our daily lives.

A taste of Blue Scorcher soup and bread will be served. There will be live entertainment by contemporary singer and composer Phillip Guzzman from 6 to 8 p.m. The Center’s neighbors on 10th Street, including Country Crafters and the newly relocated Farm House Funk, will join in on the festivities and will be open until 8 p.m. The exhibits will run through Jan. 31.

Arts and Cultural Exchange is located at 120 10th St., Suite 2. For more information, contact (503) 325-4530 or jcwaterside@artsandculturalexchange.org
