CANNON BEACH – The legend of a pirate treasure buried on Neahkahnie Mountain has inspired many a tale, and several feature length films. The story has also been brought to life through the eyes of an adventurous girl in the early 1900s, when Manzanita was barely a stop on the trail. Written by Tricia Gates Brown and illustrated by Sally Lackaff, the book is a lively tell that captures the magic of the north Oregon Coast.
The author and artist will be at Cannon Beach Gallery from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, to sign books and answer questions. This is the duo’s second collaboration, the first being “Frederick and the Flute Maker, a Haystack Rock story.”
Lackaff will be the featured artist at the Cannon Beach Gallery in October, in the exhibit “Ecola: Landscape of the Whale.” Brown will also be one of the writers showcased in the literary component of the Ecola show when four area writers speak about the ecology and cultural history of Cannon Beach at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9. Brown will be joined by Peter Lindsey, Michael Burgess and Michael Burger in this literary event.
