CANNON BEACH – Cannon Beach Reads, the monthly book discussion club of the Cannon Beach Library, will talk about “The Flame Trees of Thika: Memories of an African Childhood” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at the library, 131 N. Hemlock St. Visitors are welcome.
The 1959 book by Elspeth Huxley is high on lists of best books by women, and is praised by reviewers and readers for preserving a child’s wonder at the strangeness and beauties of the country her family brought her to in 1913 to establish a small farm.
The library discussion group is informal and allows for a wide range of opinions. The group chooses both fiction and nonfiction books months in advance and is open to new members. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month. May’s book will be “Olive Kitteridge,” by Elizabeth Strout.
