CANNON BEACH – The annual Cannon Beach Sandcastle Days will begin Friday, June 12, and continue through the weekend.

The traditional sandcastle building competition will be held Saturday, June 13. Master teams will begin building on the beach at 9 a.m.; all other teams will begin at 10 a.m. In addition to the master teams, groups can compete in the Large or Small Group categories, Sandteens, Juniors or Sand Fleas categories.

Judging will be complete by 2 p.m. Saturday and cars will need to be off the beach by 2:30 p.m.

Registration for your group to participate in the sandcastle building competition must be submitted by June 11. Forms are available at the Cannon Beach Chamber offices at Second and Spruce streets, or online at www.cannonbeachchamber.org

Novice builders of all ages are encouraged to put together a team and join the fun.

This year, a sandcastle building class will be held at approximately 7 p.m. Friday, June 11, on the beach at the Second Street approach. Frances and Michael Velling will teach the class. The Vellings are three-time world Sandcastle Champions and this year celebrate their 20th year of competing in the Cannon Beach Sandcastle competition. There is no fee for the class. There will be a bonfire afterwards; bring your own marshmallows.
