Brown and Champ have both published collections of poetry within the past year. Brown’s chapbook, “Sackcloth and Ashes,” was recently published by Frederick Press. The poems in the book reflect on such issues as love and sex, nature and spirit, and on simultaneously losing and finding. “Sackcloth and Ashes” was in part letter-pressed on a 100-year-old press at Manzanita’s Hoffman Center and is illustrated with vintage woodcut illustrations. Brown has also published poems in The Portland Review, Midwest Poetry Review and Geez Magazine, among other journals, and has published books and articles.

Champ’s collection of poems, “Old Nehalem Road,” was published by Nestucca Spit Press in 2007. Featuring 30 poems, all set in Oregon, “Old Nehalem Road” represents a remarkable literary debut for the 25-year-old poet. Equally remarkable is the story of the book’s production. Champ set the type for the entire book and printed each page on press at Manzanita’s Hoffman Center.

Both Brown and Champ’s books are hand-bound, signed and numbered first editions. They can be found at Ekahni Books in Manzanita, the Cannon Beach Gallery in Cannon Beach and Lucy’s Books in Astoria.
