PACIFIC CITY – The Community Arts Project (CAP) will again present “Your Heart’s Desire: A Celebration of Chocolate, Wine and Art,” from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.

Planned with Valentine’s Day in mind, the event is a fundraiser for CAP art literacy programs in Tillamook County schools. It will be held in the Café (formerly Migrations) at the Inn at Cape Kiwanda. The exhibit space adjoining the café and the hotel lobby will also be used. This is a recent change in location. The original plan was to hold the event this year at the Pelican Pub and Brewery, but circumstances required the change to the café location. Admission is $25 per person in advance, $30 at the door and features complimentary chocolate desserts, wine, beer, sparkling cider, music, silent auction, raffle and more.

Also featured at the event will be the sale of artwork by local professional artists, with half of the proceeds going to CAP programs and half to the artists. The artwork will also be on display and for sale from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, in the café. Guests at the Saturday event may also purchase local student artwork and cards and one-of-a-kind ceramic dessert plates created for the occasion by local artists (a limited number will be available). There will also be an exhibition of original artwork created by students in the art literacy programs.

Art literacy programs are presented at Nestucca Valley Elementary School in Cloverdale and Garibaldi Grade School. Each month, a 90-minute art education session is conducted in each classroom, focusing on a famous artist or art movement. The lesson includes art history, technique and aesthetic analysis, as well as an opportunity for each student to create artwork in the style of the artist or art movement presented. According to CAP board member Christi Clark, students look forward to each session and have impressed instructors, parents, teachers and volunteers with how well they retain what they learn.

The program is privately funded and presented by CAP, which also presents the children’s summer art program, “Slug Soup.” Funding relies on fundraisers, grants and donations by local individuals and businesses; CAP expressed gratitude to the Inn at Cape Kiwanda, Pelican Pub and Brewery, Wing Ridge Construction, Rosenberg Builders Supply, Tillamook Headlight-Herald and Lincoln City Newsguard, KTIL/KMBD, Cape Kiwanda RV Resort, Freed Gallery Pacific City and Village Merchants for sponsoring this year’s “Your Heart’s Desire” event.

The Inn at Cape Kiwanda is located at 33105 Cape Kiwanda Drive. For more information or tickets, call Kim Cavatorta at (503) 392-4581.
