Open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays

Whether you want to dine in or take your meal down to the waterfront, Tokyo Teriyaki has a number of good choices for lunch or dinner. A friend and I were on a timed lunch hour when we visited. The place was noisy with the sounds of food preparation and a number of conversations going on. If you want to be able to hear your companion, a spot along the Riverwalk might be more amenable to conversation. The restaurant itself is long and not very wide. The ceilings are high and the walls are hung with cloth banners.

Our lunch was served quickly. The service was fast, friendly and relaxed. The menu features fish, meats and vegetables. In addition to teriyaki, tempura, noodles, sushi and special rolls are included. Meals are available as combinations, combo box specials, teriyaki bowls and lunch specials.

I had the Teriyaki Chicken & Egg Roll for $6.50. It came with two egg rolls, lots of delicious chicken, two scoops of white rice and stir-fried vegetables. Everything tasted great, particularly the charbroiled meat. The servings were large enough that we both had to ask for a box. My friend had a fried rice combination, with a choice of two meats. She chose from chicken, beef, or pork for $7.50.

Beverages are chosen from canned or bottled sodas and Sobe products and are served with a glass of ice. Juice, water and hot green tea are also available. We enjoyed our lunch and had plenty of time to walk back to the office in the sun. However, I’m told that if you choose to eat in during the winter months, you’ll have a chilly experience.

It was dinner time on a Saturday night on Labor Day weekend in Seaside, and Tokyo Teriyaki II was hopping. Located in the Factory Outlet Mall, its atmosphere is completely different from its parent restaurant in Astoria. Lots of takeout orders were being prepared and the staff was hustling. The service was fast and effective, but also rushed.

The California roll is done right at Tokyo Teriyaki II in Seaside. Those who chose a seat in the mall eating area had the advantage of a television on the wall and blinds to screen the setting sun. Taking your food to an outside table gave diners the advantage of a lovely evening breeze and the day’s final rays of sun. We found friends over at the Wine Haus, also located in the mall, and were surprised to learn that we could join them over there and the staff would deliver our meals to us.

The menu is almost exactly the same, although some meals cost slightly more at Tokyo Teriyaki II. Not being an adventurous diner, I tried the Yaki Soba (Japanese soba noodle with vegetables) for $7.99 and it was delicious. A sweet taste combined with the chicken teriyaki for a delightful combination. My companion had the Chicken and Pork Combination, served with white rice and steamed vegetables, for $8.25. As my companion said, it was a good deal for a good meal. And for those who crave dessert, Tokyo Teriyaki II also serves ice cream.
