Seaside’s Art Walk celebrates second anniversary

SEASIDE – Seaside Art Walk celebrates the second anniversary of the downtown arts event from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 7. Area galleries, restaurants and stores participate in the monthly event where people experience art and culture by mingling with artists, authors and musicians. “Art Walk Stop” signs mark participating locations. Many galleries and businesses have announced special events, from book signings to exhibit openings to artist receptions.

Artworks, Carousel Mall, 300 Broadway
Visit with C.L. Boggs and discuss her featured photographs. Also showing are works by Patricia Beck, David Poole, Vicky McGath, and Francisco Rangel.

Beach Books, 37 N. Edgewood
Kurt R. Nelson, author of “Fighting for Paradise,” is the featured literary artist. Nelson will sign copies of his books from 5 to 8 p.m. and will give a talk about the military history of the area at 7 p.m. “Fighting for Paradise” includes the Chinook and Clatsop Indian battles as well as John Jacob Astor and the Hudson’s Bay Company, Fort Clatsop and Fort Stevens. In his talk, Nelson will discuss the importance of the North Oregon Coast in the fight for “paradise.” Nelson has published extensively in the criminal justice field and is an instructor at Clackamas Community College. He lives in Oregon City.

Ernst & Ernst Collector’s Gallery, 15 Broadway
A selection of fine art and limited edition prints are on exhibit by some of America’s top artists, including Howard Terpning, William Phillips and Bev Doolittle.
Gilbert District Gallery, 613 BroadwayNoted Northwest animal totem artist Sue Coccia will be in the gallery showing works in acrylic. Richard T. will provide live music.

“Herons, Herons and more than Herons!” A dozen local artists are displayed in this special exhibit showing in July and August, including Kitty Paino, Neerod Mollu, Kirstin Horning, Rich Hoffman, Tony Gardner, Bonnie Buchan, Angela Baumgartner, Lorie Bennet, Carol Barth, Vicki Baker and Lisa Ackerman. The opening reception starts at 6 p.m.

Sea of Change Gallery, 609 Broadway
Watercolor artist Joe Bush is featured. Many other fine artists are also showing, in an eclectic mix of mediums.
SunRose Gallery, 606 Broadway
Mosaic artist Anna Meyrick will be in the gallery showing her latest mosaic art works, in “Piecing Together a World.” A percentage of proceeds from art sales will become seed money for small loans offered through HERA International Community, a nonprofit organization Meyrick founded, benefiting “the Chicken Coop Enterprise,” to help widows and orphans .

“Landscapes and Seascapes” is the exhibit featured in July, featuring more than 50 local artists, with an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m.

Jimmy Pickering will be on hand with works in acrylic on clay board. Maura Cluthe’s mixed media work on canvas is also featured.
