SEAVIEW, Wash. – “A Cellobration – The Art of the Solo Cello” comes to Seaview’s 111-year-old Sou’wester Lodge at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17.

Classically trained cellist and composer John Ames is returning for his fourth performance. The program ranges from works by Telemann, Pachelbel and Eric Satie to original music for solo cello that uses 20th century digital technology to illustrate the instrument’s versatility.

When Ames introduced his solo cello project at the Sou’wester in May 2001, the audience was reportedly electricified by his fusion of disciplined classicism with the improvisational spontaneity of jazz.

“I am interested in creating music that allows the listener to wander around in his or her mind and perhaps be surprised at what arises from the inside,” Ames said.

Everyone is welcome to the casual musical experience. Light complimentary refreshments are provided. Admission is free; however, a voluntary donation, all of which goes to charity, is appreciated. The artist and the lodge provide their services free. Because of limited seating, advance reservations are recommended. For information, or to make a reservation, call the Sou’wester Lodge at (360) 642-2542.
