New art in Gearhart for February: Winter blues, whale watercolors

Published 9:00 am Monday, January 27, 2025

Gearhart’s monthly art walk is set to return from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 1 at studios, galleries and shops in town, with new visual art exhibitions opening and a look behind the work.

Many of the galleries participating double as the studios of local artists, giving visitors the chance to meet new faces and learn more about their creative processes.

Ebb-N-Flow Massage & Wellness, 3523 U.S. Highway 101

Enjoy the calm of the sea in the paintings of Karl Hauer, whose watercolors depict creatures of the deep sea. Hauer enjoys sharing how his work is made.

Pop in at the right time, and you might even be able to see the artist creating a new piece. Art will be on sale and refreshments served.

Gearhart Artful Home, 3350 U.S. Highway 101

This shop will feature handmade, functional art by CSBricca Designs, including charcuterie boards, Lazy Susans, trays, coffee and end tables.

The Station, 3427 U.S. Highway 101

Known for fun openings and raucous conversation, this studio will feature new, impressionistic paintings of the ocean by Janelle Baglien and figurative drawings by David Savinar.

The Station is located in a vintage gas station on U.S. Highway 101. It provides a creative space for Baglien and Savinar, both professional artists, to paint and show their work.

Trail’s End Art Association, 656 A St.

For its first show of 2025, Trail’s End is opening “Winter Blues,” featuring the work of member artist submissions centered on a theme.

“Winter Blues” can mean art rendered in the color blue, like ocean scenes, vast blue skies, snowy scenes, jazz blues, blue objects or even the mood of winter blues.

There will be a reception for the artists on Feb. 1 during the Gearhart Art Walk. This show will be open Fridays through Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Feb. 23. Trail’s End is also celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, as the oldest nonprofit art association of its kind on the Oregon Coast.
