Museum presentation covers longshore union history

ASTORIA — The Columbia River Maritime Museum’s Past to Present Lecture series will continue this week with “A History and Evolution of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union,” presented by longshoremen Jared Moultrie and Josh Goodwin at 11 a.m. Feb. 4.

Moultrie, now vice president of ILWU Local 4, works at the Port of Vancouver. After serving as a Combat Medic in the U.S. Army, he started as an Undefined Casual for ILWU Local 4 in 2005 and later became a Class A registered longshoreman.

Goodwin began his career as a Longshoreman in 2007 and has served on the education committee for ILWU Local 4. He has also held positions as vice president and recording secretary and is a self-proclaimed longshore history enthusiast.

The Past to Present Lecture Series continues at 11 a.m. Tuesdays in the museum’s Ford Room. Admission is free for museum members or included with general admission.
