More to explore in Our Coast Outdoors

There’s much to discover in this summer’s edition of Our Coast Outdoors.

Scuba diving from Astoria’s Pier 39, memories of summer fishing in the Columbia River and images from two recently reopened art trails in the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge are some of the stories in this year’s edition of the summertime guide.

On its cover, the daughter of rockhound and contributor Eric Davis holds a carnelian agate up high in the air, testing its translucency against the bright sunlight.

Davis, who frequently shares finds from his rockhounding trips along the Oregon Coast on Instagram, compiled a guide to searching for agates along the region’s rivers and beaches as the issue’s cover story.

That includes varieties like the rare Nehalem blue agate, which is named for the Nehalem River.

Other stories cover horseback riding on the beach, historic hikes at Fort Stevens State Park and local pickleball courts.

Copies of Our Coast Outdoors can be picked up at locations throughout the region. Watch for stories to appear online this week.
