Whether you’re a local or just visiting for a few days, there are many ways to leave your mark on the North Coast this weekend.

In Cannon Beach, there’s a unique opportunity to become part of something beautiful, even if you are the world’s least artistically talented human. The Earth and Ocean Arts Festival will be hosting artist Daniel Dancer, and his latest Art for the Sky project.

Dancer creates pieces of art by strategically placing volunteers in color-coded outfits into choreographed positions, then photographing them from high in the sky. The image Dancer plans to create this weekend is the world’s largest sea star. All you have to do to be part of it is wear red and show up Saturday afternoon on the beach. Organizers ask that you RSVP to the free event, which can be done at cbgallerygroup.com.

If you’re looking for something more independent to work on this weekend, you might want to consider entering the Writer’s Guild of Astoria’s poetry contest. The winners will be awarded with $100 and the chance to read their work onstage next to Pulitzer Prize winning poet Jericho Brown in November. Finally, if you simply desire a weekend of food and drink on the coast, you can show off your beer lifting talents. North Jetty Brewing on Washington’s Long Beach Peninsula will be holding JettyFest, an Oktoberfest celebration complete with a stein holding contest.
