That’s one cool magic show

After the Festival of Illusions has been packed away, the confetti swept from the floor and the last stray bunny rabbit successfully coaxed from under the stage, magic will return to the Lincoln City Cultural Center for one afternoon only on Saturday, April 25.

An Afternoon of Magic and Ice Cream is a customer appreciation event for Amy Graham of Taylor & Taylor Realty Co., combining a sweet treat with a show from acclaimed magician Henrik Bothe and the chance to get the scoop on the coastal real estate market.

A native of Denmark, Bothe began entertaining at the early age of three when he drove the family VW bug into the sea. With fortune on his side, he made a quick escape and was soon mesmerized by plate-spinning acts on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Before long, he was breaking his mother’s plates and throwing his father’s knives in the woodshop, which led to his enrollment in the Aahus Theater Academy.

In the early ’90s Bothe moved to Seattle and headlined as an entertainer for major cruise lines while working on “Neon Man,” a glow-in-the-dark optical illusion that has been his ticket to television appearances all over the world. He also perfected his plate spinning routine.

Bothe has appeared on many programs, including ABC’s recent remake of “The Gong Show,” with Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show,” and in Las Vegas at Caesar’s Palace and on Europe’s most widely viewed variety show “Le Plus Grande Cabaret du Monde” in Paris.

He currently resides with his wife and family in Portland, where he performs locally, leads team-building workshops and teaches a circus arts program in metro-area schools.

An Afternoon of Magic and Ice Cream will begin with ice cream served from 1 to 1:30 pm, with Bothe taking to the stage from 1:30 to 2:30 pm.
