Readings, music, conversation at Sou’wester Lodge

SEAVIEW, Wash. — An evening of readings and music is happening at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Sou’wester Lodge, 3728 J Place.

The event features performances from three women with unique backgrounds. Sophia Shalmiyev, Leni Zumas and Ivy Ross Ricci will share their creative works.

Zumas won the 2019 Oregon Book Award for her national bestselling novel, “Red Clocks.” She is also the author of “Farewell Navigator,” and “The Listeners.”

Shalmiyev will share her lyrical memoir, “Mother Winter.” Born to a Russian mother and an Azerbaijani father, she emigrating to America at age eleven. She recounts her emotional journeys as an immigrant, an artist and a woman raised without her mother.

Ricci is a musician, writer, educator and activist. Her music video, ‘Girls Sit Screaming’ is facilitating conversations with students, teachers and parents about how to create a world in which mainstream constructs of gender don’t limit any of our amazing youth as they come of age.
