The Icelanders cometh! AVA hosts author, artist at gallery

ASTORIA — Astoria Visual Arts presents “Icelandic Connections: An Evening with Author Rúnar Helgi Vignisson and Artist Anne Greenwood Rioseco” at AVA Gallery, 1010 Duane St., 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 6.
Admission is free, but space is limited: first come, first served.
Icelandic author and translator Rúnar Helgi Vignisson will read “Sandals” from “Ást í meinum” (“Love and Other Complications”), a short-story collection published in 2012. Vignisson is associate professor of Icelandic and comparative cultural studies and the chair of the creative writing program at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik. He is the author of seven books of fiction and recently was shortlisted for the Icelandic Literature Award. Vignisson is a visiting writer-in-residence at the Clearman Cottage Writer’s Residency, located on Willapa Bay.
Precipice Fund 2019 artist Anne Greenwood Rioseco, whose exhibition “Icelandic Threads” is currently on display at the AVA Gallery, will talk about her work, created during her residence at the Icelandic Textile Center in Blönduós, Iceland. Combining her interest in art and science, Greenwood explores the shared geological landforms of Iceland and Oregon.
Classic Nordic food and drink will be served.
