MANZANITA – At 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, the Lower Nehalem Watershed Council Speaker Series features Dr. Stephen Lancaster of Oregon State University for a discussion titled “It Takes a Lot of Guts: The Slow Digestion of Mountain Ranges by Stream Networks.”
The free event takes place at the Pine Grove Community House, 225 Laneda Ave.
Lancaster will discuss how rivers and streams erode mountains, deposit sediment and move across floodplains.
Lancaster’s Ph.D research focused on creating models of river meandering and how they influence models of landscape change.
This event is part of the Watershed Council’s regular Speaker Series. A gift certificate or special item from a local business supporter is raffled off at each event. This presentation will be preceded by a 6 p.m. meeting of the council’s board of directors.
