- Runners at a previous race take off along the Columbia River.
ASTORIA — The sixth annual Run on the River — a half marathon, 10K and 5K along the Columbia River and Astoria Riverwalk Trail — takes place Sunday, May 19.
There is still time to save $10 at registration when you sign up before Friday, April 19. Groups that register together get an additional $10 off, and Clatsop County residents save another $10. The race sold out last year, so register early to guarantee your spot and to receive discounted pricing.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers of the half marathon.
Registered participants receive complimentary lunch and beverage from Buoy Beer, a t-shirt, and a glass medal created locally by Fernhill Glass Studio. The Kids Fun Run will be held again this year, too.
The start and finish line will be at Buoy Beer Co. on Eighth Street. Due to construction on the Riverwalk scheduled through the end of May, Run on the River is detoured from the certified course on the Riverwalk beginning at the Sixth Street platform to 14th Street. This means that the race will not be certified this year.
Not running this year? Volunteer!
The event is a fundraiser hosted by the Astoria Parks, Recreation and Community Foundation, sponsored by Buoy Beer Co. and supported by local businesses. The intention is to raise money for scholarships for individuals and families to utilize health and wellness programs provided by Astoria Parks and Recreation.
