ASTORIA — The League of Intertidal Writers, an Astoria-based literary arts nonprofit organization, hosts a poetry writing workshop from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, with instructor Shannon Carson, a Portland poet.

In the workshop, “Poeisis & Poetry: Poet as Maker of Meaning,” Carson will lead participants through guided meditations, writing prompts, revision exercises and discussions that explore the role of the poet as one who makes sense of or reveals truths to help us understand ourselves and the world we inhabit. Each writer will leave the workshop with, if not a completed poem, a strong start toward that end.

Carson has a bachelor of arts in English literature and a master’s degree in poetry from Portland State University, where she taught writing for nearly a decade.

The workshop takes place in a private home. The cost is $50 and will cap at 12 participants. Participants will pay at the beginning of the workshop. Scholarships are also available.
