BodyVox-2 dance experience returns to the Liberty Theater

ASTORIA Back by popular demand, BodyVox-2 is kinetic storm of creativity, physicality, beauty and wit. Hailed by Oregon Arts Watch as a tight ensemble of skilled performers, BodyVox-2 performs a repertory composed of new work and classic BodyVox dances. This captivating program reveals a powerful and dynamic company of dancers to Astoria audiences at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at the Liberty Theater.

Tickets cost $15 to $30. The box office, 503-325-5922, ext. 55, is open from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and two hours before the show. The Liberty Theater is located at 1203 Commercial St.

BodyVox is a dance company based in Portland, and was formed in 1997 on commission from the Portland Opera. The company blends contemporary dance with dance theater, and often makes use of other performance art form, such as live music. In addition to performances, the company has worked extensively with film and multi-media. BodyVoxs collection of short films, Modern Daydreams, was a collaboration with performance artist and filmmaker Mitchell Rose, and the film won the American Choreography Award for Outstanding Achievement in Short Film in 2002.

BodyVox-2 is an exciting company of dedicated young dancers. Under the direction of admired teacher and former BodyVox dancer Zachary Carroll, BodyVox-2 provides a mentoring and performing opportunity for talented young dancers as they transition from training to the professional world.

This emerging group of performers plays an important role in the success of BodyVox. They perform in all BodyVox school assemblies, spending a significant amount of time visiting schools throughout Oregon and southwest Washington. They also perform and tour a show composed of classic BodyVox dances and new work created especially for them. All while training with and rehearsing under the dancers of BodyVox; understudying repertory, helping to develop new work and gaining valuable professional and performing experience in the process.

BodyVox-2 direction is by Zachary Carroll, and artistic direction is by BodyVox-2 co-founders Jamey Hampton and Ashley Roland. Performers in the BodyVox-2 event in Astoria include Jeff George, Anna Marra, Josh Murry, Holly Shaw and Katie Staszkow.
