ASTORIA The Clatsop County Master Gardeners will hold a Winterize Your Garden program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds, located at 92937 Walluski Loop off of U.S. Highway 202.

The program is free and open to the public; in case of rain, it will be held indoors in the main building.

Teresa Retzlaff, owner of 46 North Farm, will be the guest speaker. She is knowledgeable about shutting down your garden for the winter and what to do in the meantime.

Chuck Meyer will conduct a demonstration on how to clean and sharpen your garden tools and put them away for the winter.

There will also be a large plant sale. Experts will be on hand to answer questions. There will be a demonstration on dividing plants for fall planting. The master gardeners will also hold a soil testing clinic: Bring your soil either in a sealed plastic bag or in a jar with a lid and they will check the pH for you.

The event also provides visitors an opportunity to see the demonstration gardens that are maintained by the master gardeners at the fairgrounds.
