SKAMOKAWA, Wash. – Two annual fundraisers are on the horizon, with registrations now being accepted. Both events will be held Saturday, June 2, at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds at 16 Fairgrounds Road.

The 12th annual Derby Dollars for Scholars begins with all registered fishermen spending the morning fishing for sturgeon on the Columbia River, followed by a salmon and barbecue chicken dinner plus prizes and a raffle.

For mail-in registration and the guarantee of a T-shirt, forms must be postmarked by May 14, or drop off your registration forms at the Bank of the Pacific or Cathlamet Chevron in Cathlamet, Wash., or Naselle Hardware in Naselle, Wash. Final day for drop-off registration is June 1. You may also register at the event, but registration after May 14 does not include the T-shirt.

If fishing is not your game but you still enjoy rods – hot rods, that is – the seventh annual Rods and Reels Rod Run will take place at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds that day. The run is open to all unique vehicles in a variety of categories and includes a T-shirt, meal ticket and goodie bag if you register before May 18. Participants may also register at the event and receive a meal ticket but no T-shirt or goodie bag.

Both events benefit the Dollars for Scholars. For more information, including registration fees, contact the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce at (360) 795-9996, wchamber@cni.net or log on to www.wahkiakumchamber.com/sturgeonderby&bbq.htm
