CATHLAMET, Wash. – Trillium, a chamber trio formed from members of Astoria’s 101-year-old Friday Musical Club, is scheduled to play the first half of a performance at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Pioneer Church performance hall. The trio consists of Ann Lederer on piano, Janet Bowler on flute and Judy Woodward on cello. The music Trillium has selected for the evening ranges from modern to ancient and from light to serious. The program includes “Pastorale,” by Vivaldi; “Oblivion,” by Piazzolla; and “Pleasant Moments,” by Scott Joplin.

Soprano Laurie Drage and her accompanist on piano, Jacquetta Purtle, are also from Astoria and hold membership in the music club. The duo round out the evening’s musical offering at the church’s public performance hall. The songs will include “All I Want,” from “My Fair Lady;” “How High the Moon,” from “Biloxi Blues;” and “My Man’s Gone Now,” from “Porgy and Bess.”
This performance will blend history and music as the century-old Pioneer Church hosts members of the equally historic Astoria Friday Musical Club. According to Bowler, the Pioneer Church is a natural setting for the musicians. She said, “The acoustics in the hall are bright and alive…” and the stage is “perfect for small concerts and for showcasing small groups such as our own.”
This concert is the first in the 2008 series of the Pioneer Community Association’s “Monthly Medley of Music.” Future performances are at 7 p.m. Saturdays, and include String of Pearls, June 14; Arcato String Quartet, July 12; Any Band USA, Aug. 23; and the Columbia River Brass Quintet, Sept. 20.
